Moving Physical Interactions to Digital During a Pandemic
When major disruptive events like the Covid-19 pandemic happens they can act as an accelerant or as an obstacle to change. The pandemic we are experiencing today is no different. In a recent report by TrustRadius 2020, the following technologies are currently experiencing large increases in demand during the pandemic:
- Telemedicine
- Electronic signatures
- Web conferencing
- Mobile app development
- Antivirus
- Remote desktop
- Video platforms
- Webinar
- Web portal
- Live chat
All of these technologies are designed to facilitate human interactions via digital interaction points thus keeping us safe from virus transmission, and to help us be productive working remotely. In the case of these technologies the pandemic is accelerating their adoption.
Many other categories of technologies are also being accelerated. Categories that enable digital commerce such as anti-fraud solutions, authentication technologies and supply chain risk management, etc. These categories are being accelerated because of the increases in digital commerce, supply chain disruptions and the increases in opportunistic cyber-attacks and cyber-crime happening during the pandemic as well.
Today, I read about a new type of swine flu that scientists have discovered and are watching carefully. History and recent events have taught us that the globalization of business, supply chains, workforces and travel have made it certain that global pandemics will be increasing, and technologies that can assist us to live and work under these constant threats will be in high demand.
